  Maths@KCS

A total of 21 students from Year 9 and Year 10 achieved certification in the UK Intermediate Mathematics Challenge. Over 3000 schools nationwide took part in the challenge.
     
  BBC SCHOOL NEWS REPORT : Students from Kingsmead have been busy working to a tight deadline this morning (13/03/08). The Year 8s had to conduct interviews, write scripts and put together a 30min radio show. The show will be broadcast at 17.15 today on 10Radio, the local radio station which serves the 10 parishes surrounding Wiveliscombe.   Year 7 Bloggers are up and running and keeping a watch on Spring for us again. This year, they'll be focusing on the development of the new Kingsmead Garden. Follow this link to their new blog: http://www.kingsmead-school.com/englishblog/
     
  On Wednesday 6th of February - 25 selected students became BBC School Report journalists. Equipped with recording equipment and professional advice from BBC journalist Philip Loat from BBC Spotlight, the students gathered news items from the local community and broadcast 1 10 minute news magazine programme on 10Radio by the 2.15pm deadline.   On Tuesday 5th February all year 8 students were given the opportunity to find out what it is like to be a journalist at the BBC. Students worked extremely hard and produced a radio news bulletin by 3pm.
 
From the 21st of January 2008 10Radio will be transmitting on 105.3FM from their new studios in Wiveliscombe, you will also be able to hear them on the internet via this website. At Kingsmead we make extensive use of the radio station to support teaching and learning, with students and staff regularly broadcasting to the community. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre are running a campaign in the run-up to Christmas aimed at parents and carers, given that many will be thinking about buying internet and digital technologies as gifts for their children.As part of this campaign CEOP are offering a registration facility on the ThinkUKnow website where parents and carers will be able to receive regular updates via email over the New Year. These updates will include information on new technologies, emerging risks and safety tips to help them keep their children safe online.

Exam Success   Year 11 students at Kingsmead are celebrating outstanding results at GCSE this year.

67% of the 155 students achieved 5 or more A* - C grade passes with 94% achieving 5 or more A* - G and 99% obtaining at least 1 A* - G. Significantly, in the new' standard of five or more A* - C grade passes including English and Maths, the students achieved beyond expectations with 59%, which is better than last year when the school had its best ever results

  As part of their studies in Humanities, Year 7 students have created a virtual tour of Chepstow using a combination of immersive panoramas and audio.
