Art and Textiles

Welcome to the Kingsmead School Art and Textiles Learning Team.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8), students cover many skills and experience a range of art and textiles materials. These include paint, pastel and air dry clay in art and weaving, fabric painting and collage in textiles. Drawing is key in both areas for research and idea development. Students see staff demonstrate techniques which help inspire their work and make them feel more confident to have a go.

At Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 & 11), students continue to develop their skills and build on the methods, techniques and materials they have developed and used in Lower School. In Year 9 students follow a structured 'Foundation Course' and in Years 10 and 11 they work on themed units, Controlled Assessment and also prepare for the final exam. The course they follow is Edexcel. Staff in the department are experienced in a wide range of disciplines and use this to inspire and enthuse students.

Students are encouraged to enter both art and photography competitions, both locally and nationally. The department promotes visiting local art exhibitions.
