STEMworks Challenge on Yr8 Careers Day

Posted on Feb 29, 2016

On 24 February a team from STEMworks led an exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) challenge day at Kingsmead.  90 students from Year 8 were involved in a design and make challenge, working in teams to design a rocket which could be fired some 10-15 metres across the dining hall whilst holding a raw egg!  The aim was to ensure the rocket travelled the furthest possible distance without breaking its fragile cargo!  Through this students learnt about the design process, materials, aerodynamics and teamwork skills. Charlie Pierce, Head of Applied Learning said “Kingsmead students greatly enjoyed learning about STEM through a competitive and exciting process.”
