This June Kingsmead athletes have competed at the County and at the South West Schools Athletics Championships.
First were the County Championships, held on 9th June in Yeovil, where there were some amazing results for Kingsmead, with five students becoming a County Champion and winning gold, several more winning silver/bronze and seven students qualifying for the South West Championships.
Well done to County Champions Tom Heal, Charlotte Brown, Kester Welch, Kurt Gilbert and Maddie Shaw. Also to silver medalists Saxon Stuart-Taylor, Ruby Porter and Hanna Jarvis and bronze medalist Lydia Brown.
Then came the South West Schools Athletics Championships, held on 16th June in Exeter. With seven students in the Somerset squad Kingsmead had the largest state school representation in the county team. Again brilliant results for our students:-
Tom Heal became South West Champion and set a new Kingsmead record for the 1500m.
Kurt Gilbert achieved third place in pole vault and set a new school record.
Jack Cowling made the final and achieved a new school record for 100m.
School records also achieved for Maddie Shaw (hammer), Kester Welch (400m hurdles) and Charlotte Brown (3000m).
Special mention to Andrea Gilbert who achieved a new Kingsmead record for 300m hurdles and has been selected to represent Somerset at the National Schools Championships being held in July in Birmingham. Good Luck Andrea!
