Three students from Year 8 visited Bridgwater & Taunton College for 2 days at the end of June to take part in the college’s Challenge for Women: Construction and Engineering Project. The project provides the opportunity for girls to gain hands-on experience of construction and engineering, practise engineering techniques and meet female role models from within the industry.
The girls were selected to take part in the project after writing their own letters of application and this trip was the first of several which will take place over the next three years.
During this trip the girls, together with participants from other local schools, toured the new engineering building at the college before taking part in a bridge building competition. They then built mini bungalows all by themselves which included brick laying, woodwork and fitting electrics.
The girls all really enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to their next trip which will take place in Year 10.
