Construction

Welcome to the Kingsmead School Construction Department.

Kingsmead school has introduced Construction to the curriculum as a response to the needs of the community, learners and construction industry. The school provides a curriculum that introduces the learners to the industry and builds their practical, employability and problem-solving skills.

The course provides a balance of theory and practical skills, site visits and problem-solving scenarios.

Practical lessons combine skills building exercises and longer projects which allow the learners to develop a deeper knowledge of construction techniques. Theory lessons will use interactive learning techniques such as quizzes and games to engage learners as well as individual written projects to extend learning.

Progress is monitored through a range of assessment methods. Practical work will be marked with a grade based on quality of work with more able learners being set extension tasks. Written assignments will be graded following WJEC’s guidance to ensure learners receive feedback in line with their target grades.

The curriculum will be enriched with site visits and visits from employers. Kingsmead is due to start its new school build and it is the intention that the Construction students will conduct visits to the site through the stages of the build.
