Nicola Kerslake, our Art and Design Technology Technician, has been given an exciting opportunity to attend the prestigious International Art Medal Federation (FIDEM) Congress in Belgium after receiving a scholarship.
Nicola will not only attend the bi-annual congress in Ghent this September but will also receive tuition from the UK renowned medal artist Ron Dutton as part of the scholarship.
Nicola became interested in medal making whilst studying Fine Art at Falmouth University. The first medal she created was for the British Art Medal Societies Student Medal Project. Nicola’s medal won the ‘Cutting Edge Medal Prize’, awarded by the Worshipful Company of Cutlers. She then applied and was selected to become the ‘New Medallist’ for the British Art Medal Society. The New Medallist is a yearlong scheme introducing artists who have recently left art college to medal making. She began her year last September after graduating from university with a First Class Degree.
This is a fantastic achievement and opportunity for Nicola and we look forward to hearing more about her trip and see more of her amazing medals in the months to come.
