Year 10 Students go to work

Year 10 students spent the week of 4th to 8th July in Work Experience. The students were tasked at the start of the school year to approach and apply to employers for a placement and their hard work paid off with the whole year group spending the week in their chosen business. These varied from local and national employers in industries ranging from leisure, retail, manufacturing, motor, beauty and more…

Year 7 Okehampton Residential

The Year 7 residential trip took place between 4th and 8th July 2016. Students stayed at an activity centre in Okehampton, Devon and had the opportunity to take part in a range of sport and craft pursuits throughout the week. They were accompanied by their form tutors and Leader of Student Support Mr Porter who described the week as “good fun with loads and loads of activities to keep the students busy.”

Junior Maths Kangaroo 2016

Congratulations to Matthew Bond in Year 8 who scored a very impressive 100 (out of a possible maximum of 135) and gained a Merit in the second round of this year's UKMT Junior Maths Challenge.

County Cricket Runners Up!

A big Well Done to our Year 7 & 8 Girls Cricket Team who are now the County Runners Up after playing in the Schools’ Cricket County Finals at Bridgwater on 30 June. 2016 Spelling Bee Champions

Well done to Parrett House who are the 2016 Spelling Bee Champions. The Spelling Bee Competition took place during lunchtime on 29th June. The atmosphere was tense and the competitors were excellent. After a knock out round one and two timed rounds it went to a sudden death round between Parrett and Otter. The final results were:-

Athletics Update

Kingsmead were represented at the South West Schools' Track & Field Championships held in Exeter on Saturday 18th June 2016.

Fantastic Addams Family!

Students spent three nights last week performing their production of ‘The Addams Family’ to audiences. The family musical comedy went down a hit and all the cast and crew are to be congratulated for their hard work and commitment which resulted in an excellent show!

Prom Night!!

Kingsmead’s Year 11 students arrived in style to their prom on Friday 17 June at Oake Manor Golf Club. After a day of rain the weather brightened up beautifully and the students were able to make their grand entrances to the party and down the red carpet where they were greeted by Mrs Clements, who has been their Head of Year for the past 5 years. Following photographs the students enjoyed a 3-course meal and disco inside the venue with their classmates and teachers.

County Finals here we come…

Well done to our Year 7 Girls Rounders Team! The girls’ won the Schools Area Championships on 7 June at Bishop Foxes and will now be playing in the County Finals being held at Millfield in July.

Duke of Edinburgh Weekend Expedition

Year 10 students working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award undertook their Assessed Expedition on the weekend of 11-12 June. The eight teams of students taking part were required to walk their own planned route over two days carrying all their equipment required for an overnight camp on Exmoor. In preparation for the weekend the students had spent a number of months planning, preparing and practising; they had a practice expedition in April and spent time learning essential skills such as map reading, camping skills and first aid.
