School Farm May Update

Firstly, we must extend our sincere thanks to the PTA for the incredibly generous funding that has allowed us to purchase a new Husqvarna TR348 rotavator. This has already been put to good use, mixing large amounts of well rotted sheep poo into the ground under the poly tunnel.

The students have been busy trenching for the water supply to the poly tunnel and ultimately on into the field. This has now been completed with an operational standpipe and the trenches back filled.

We have planted out the two tractor tyres and the wooden planters with a variety of flowers, including lavender, following two very successful visits to the Blackdown Garden Centre with Year 10 students. We also have some lettuces growing in the poly tunnel just for the guinea pigs.

We have been busy making repairs to the hay shed. The old and rotted rear section has been removed with new supports and framing now completed. Next job will be to re-clad this and refit the original guttering. Following that we will repair the small section of the sides.

Summer seems to be here at last so lots of mowing and strimming is taking place. We have in fact just ordered a new lawn mower (my 20 year old mower is on it’s last legs) which should be arriving this week.
