School Farm Update

We have now named the farm – The Old Railway Farm. The name was suggested by Nathan P in Year 10, one of our Land Based Studies students. He came up with the idea as the old branch line which closed in 1966 used to run right beside one of our fields, so it seemed very apt that we went with his idea. We had a lovely sign made by the parents of Lucy S in Year 11 – thank you!

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Ware family for the very generous donation of several small bales of hay and straw for the farm. Our rather fussy sheep are munching on it as if it was gourmet cooking! We would also like to thank Mrs Clarke who was kind enough to drop off a lovely bag of hay for our guinea pigs. Your help and support is hugely appreciated by us all.

The new chicken coup was assembled two Year 10 students Isabella H-H and Alexa B, the new garden tool shed we inherited from the site contractors working on the school was disassembled, moved and reassembled by Year 10.

We have been refurbishing the covered yard by removing the old rotted timber walling and replacing it with block walling. The Year 10 and 11 students have done the block work.

Our Year 10 construction students have been making bird boxes and some of those will be going up to the farm so hopefully in the spring we will see some nesting birds.
